The Dairy Museum

The Lozzo di Cadore Community Dairy was built in 1884 and remained active until 1984 when animal husbandry in the town ceased and there was thus no milk to deliver to the dairy. Today the building is used as a museum to pass on knowledge on traditional procedures for cheese, butter and ricotta working.

The abandonment of rural activities have led to the closure of the many community dairies and a first exhibition was set up by volunteers and associations whose work here was entirely voluntary.

The new museum was opened more recently with the same artefacts reorganised and with added films and photographs which bring past activities, the livelihoods of local people, back to life.
