palus san marco
The Palùs San Marco plain is mid-way between Auronzo and Misurina at an altitude of around 1100 metres. Set into conifer and beech forests and encircled by the imposing peaks of the Marmarole and Sorapiss massifs, it is the ideal place for a stay or visit in direct contact with nature.
In summer it is an excellent base for trekking, horse riding trips and mountain bike and road bike excursions. In winter it turns into a cross country skiing and sled dog centre and the ideal place for a snow shoe trip.
The flora and fauna in Palùs San Marco has been protected within the Somadida Controlled Nature Reserve since the fifteenth century by the Venetian Republic and now it is one of 130 places which are state owned and protected. Suitable for families and the elderly too, since the summer of 2013 the forest has also hosted a large ‘forest library’.
